Frequently Asked Questions

What is scope? +
The work to be done behind the traffic closure. Some examples include surveying, potholing, boring, paving, restoration, sidewalk work, striping, crane lift, scaffolding, private events, etc.
What is the reviewing agency? +
Any group reviewing the traffic control plan. This can include but is not exclusive to cities, counties, DOTs, Caltrans, VTA, SFMTA, railroad, and project management teams for owners. This should be found in your specifications and/or your permitting requirements. Include as many of the agencies you know will review it to ensure the plan is drawn to meet all parties requirements and avoid multiple revisions.
What is a stamp? PE, TE, other? +
Some projects require the traffic control plan to be stamped by the approving agency or company policy. Usually by a professional engineer or traffic engineer. If there are additional stamping needs please fill in "other" and write the requirement you have for your best match.
What is TCP Priority Level? +
Standard is the slowest option and best value. 2 business days for estimate and TCP typically drafted within 6 days (this will depend on drafters availability and plan complexity).

Rush drafting expedites only the drafting portion of the plans and costs slightly more. 2 business days for estimate and plans within 4 days.

Expedited Service is the fastest option available and will have quotes to you within a day. It requires a deposit and has an option for a videocall booking same day.
What are work areas vs phases? +
A job could be one area, as defined by project team. Work areas can have multiple phases, such as closure lanes by lane or westbound lanes first then phase two with eastbound lanes. Work areas can be used without any multiple phases as well. Work areas will show up as different colors when drawn. All areas and phases will be labeled on the drawing.
How to draw a work area? +
Click on the orange draw button, then click on the drawing in the area three times. Use the drag points to adjust and move area. Click to complete the area selection.
What does maintaining pedestrian access mean? +
The work will accommodate pedestrians and maintain access. If the work area is in the sidewalk this may require a special note and flagging to achieve this.
What does driveway access open with restricted access mean? +
Either a flagger or note that the driveway will be flagged as needed to maintain access. It may also mention steel plates or other items to keep the area open depending on scope of work.
What does driveway access with breaking up work zone to maintain driveway access mean? +
Driveway areas will be free of all construction devices and signs to maintain access without additional accommodations or flagging to maintain.
